چکیده

Particle-based simulation methods are gaining popularity for creating animations of physical phenomena such as fluids and melting solids. Extracting and visualizing an explicit surface corresponding to the volume of particles is however a difficult and time-consuming task, especially with increasing particle set sizes. In this paper, we present a novel interactive rendering algorithm for rasterizing a surface which conforms to the particle cloud. We show how projection and blending of overlapping spheres assigned to the particles yields smooth surfaces and discuss how this algorithm can be implemented on the GPU. The presented rendering algorithm allows rapid high-quality surface visualization for particle-based simulations, without the need to extract an explicit surface representation. Therefore, it has applications for both preview rendering of particle simulations and real-time fluid visualization for interactive applications. Interactive Image-Space Volume Visualization for Dynamic Particle Simulations

Particle-based simulation plays an important role in many different fields of science and engineering. Two common visualization approaches for the resulting data are glyph-based rendering and density sampling employing volume rendering. Fine geometric features are inherently captured by glyph-based methods. However, they might suffer from aliasing and the global structure is often poorly convey...

Hierarchical Splatting of Scattered Data

Numerical particle simulations and astronomical observations create huge data sets containing uncorrelated 3D points of varying size. These data sets cannot be visualized interactively by simply rendering millions of colored points for each frame. Therefore, in many visualization applications a scalar density corresponding to the point distribution is resampled on a regular grid for direct volu...

Modeling of Fuzzy Natural Phenomena with Particle System: A General Method for Interactive Visualization

We present a general approach for rendering fuzzy objects modeled by a system of particles. At present time a lot of different techniques exist for rendering such objects. Often researchers who develop methods for modeling of complex fuzzy objects like smoke and clouds use there own methods for rendering these objects. This separate developing of rendering techniques has led the methods to loss...
